This council focuses on spearheading pilot projects to improve employment land availability, mobility, and net zero infrastructure in the area surrounding the GTA West Economic Gateway.
The Challenge
The GTA West Economic Gateway (the Gateway) is Canada’s second-largest concentration of employment after downtown Toronto - strategically positioned to be an economic powerhouse for the Region. But without a coordinated approach to this area, our productivity will continue hanging in the balance.
The Opportunity
This Council will use the Gateway as a ‘living lab’ to address critical challenges faced across the region - from transit and congestion to land use planning and goods distribution.
Sample projects could include:
- Using mobile apps developed by local innovators to allow workers in large facilities to plan and book on-demand trips.
- Private shuttles and public buses using flexible, responsive routes to connect workers to major transit stations.
