Summary

Half of Canada’s manufacturing takes place in the Innovation Corridor, but congestion obstructs just-in-time production and the distribution of finished goods.

To address this problem, the Board has put together a series of reports that explore what infrastructure investments can best address the Region’s movement of goods. This report is the fourth of that series.

This report puts forward four policies that will enhance the movement of goods along the Toronto-Waterloo corridor, increasing economic prosperity in that Region. These four policies are:

  • Maximizing the use of existing infrastructure can address issues relating to transit congestion.
  • Targeting investments in new infrastructure when existing infrastructure can no longer meet increasing demand.
  • Improving coordination of transportation and land use such that land use planning supports, rather than hinders, the movement of goods.
  • Addressing urban challenges, such as truck delivery planning and last-mile solutions.
